The Basics of Renting a Boat
You should consider several important things before committing to a boat rental whether you're planning a big fishing trip or just a leisure outing. The first thing you'll need to determine is the type of craft you'll need for your boat purpose. Boat rentals are generally divided into 3 different categories; powerboats, sailboats, and jet skis. Each of these tailors to a specific type of customer and you'll need to know what you wish to get out of your boat rental ahead of time.Renting a Powerboat
If you are looking to go fishing than this is probably the most common boat rental you'll see. Most rental places offer an extensive selection of boat charters to pick from. Additionally, before you select what boat to rent see if the company is offering any specials or coupons in related magazines or on their website. There are many different powerboats to choose from so think wisely before you pick one. If you are planning to go fishing, the boat rental company should have boats specifically equipped for this task. By the same token, if you are looking to leisurely cruise around the lake or ocean a pontoon boat would probably be more your speed. Some places will even offer high performance racing boats for those of you who are looking for something that just goes fast. One word of advice though; be sure you have experience and are able to control a boat of this caliber, keep in mind that it's not a toy and water can hurt pretty bad when you land on it hard.Renting a Sailboat
Due to the lack of a loud engine, sailboats will allow you to be even more relaxed and enjoy the lake or ocean without distraction. A lot of sailboat packages include wine tasting or tours of the surrounding area. If you have the money, you could even charter a sailboat and have the boat to yourself for the full experience. These tours offer you a unique look and feel of the surrounding terrain and culture. If you've never sailed before, I can highly recommend taking a charter of the area to really get a feel for what it's like.Renting a Jet Ski
Last but not least are Jet Skis or wave runners. These provide the most mobile and portable way to tour an area. Although they're extremely fun in smaller closed areas with a small group, I wouldn't recommend them for large groups or long-distance traveling. Lakes, lagoons, or beaches without piers as well as other tightly packed waterfronts offer the perfect experience for these fun-machines. If you've never been on one and your budget is limited, this should be your first choice as it provides absolute control and freedom on the water and an awesome first-time experience. Do keep in mind that the rental can be pricey if you want the machine for longer periods of time and that it does in fact take a toll on an untrained upper arm if you want to do a little bit more than cruising (boring). Jet skiing is great in pairs as you can "jump" over each others waves :)Take advantage of one or or more of these unique ways to get out on the water and enjoy or see the lake, river or ocean at your leisure.
