Finding Equipment for your Pontoon Boat
There are few things more relaxing and enjoyable than floating around on a float boat (pontoon boat). These "floating floors" can be outfitted for a variety of purposes. Some people use pontoons for fishing while others just like to "tour" around their lake of choice. Another great thing to do with a pontoon boat is to turn it into a party boat! Some people even bring on pontoon equipment with the intent to live on the boat for a couple of days or even weeks at a time.No matter what type of pontoon boat equipment you'll bring on board, it will need to be secured properly to the boat in order to prevent it from shifting around on rough water. Even the smallest of items need to be at least tethered to the boat to keep it in the desired position. It may seems as though the weight of some of the pontoon boat equipment should be enough to hold it in place, but if the surface becomes wet it will also be slippery and allow the items to move if the boat rocks too much.
That small cooler brought on board filled with beverages and possibly bait will need to be lashed to the floor or some other surface to keep it from falling overboard. Unless the boat is intended only for small lakes that seldom see any rough waters, the pontoon boat equipment must be stowed securely.
When choosing Equipment, consider the Needs of All Passengers
An often overlooked necessity on pontoon boats are bathrooms. Undoubtedly the need will arise at some point for someone to use the bathroom while out on the lake. There are pontoon accessories available that make this possible without the passengers having to use the lake waters as their own personal outhouse. In addition to a commode, there are boating equipment accessories which can provide privacy when the need strikes by enclosing the portable facility. As a pontoon boat owner, you'll also have to keep the weight limit in mind. Don't forget to also add up the total weight of all the equipment you're planning to bring on board (kegs are heavy!) in addtion to your total passenger weight. A pontoon boat on average support more weight than a similar sized V-hull boat. The weight however also needs to be distributed evenly along the lines of the boat. If you put all of your stuff on one side of the boat, it can make for quite an uneven and unpleasant ride, or should I say swim when all your equipment and passengers capsize.
