Bass Fishing Guide for Beginners

Bass fishing is a wonderful sport to get involved in, and you can have great success with your bass fishing by making yourself educated and learning some helpful tips and techniques. One of the best beginner’s tips is to avoid buying a boat until you have actually learned how to fish and have decided that you want to make fishing a serious part of your life. Many people who are beginning in this sport find it resourceful to rent a boat whenever one is needed.

You can also look into the option of joining one of the many bass fishing clubs which will give you the opportunity to fish off of someone else’s boat and just pitch in toward the expenses of the day.

Choosing your Equipment

The first major step you should take in bass fishing is to choose your equipment. The first piece of equipment that you should be concerned with is your rod. There are various sizes, weights, and prices of rods that are available, and so you may find it intimidating when you head out to buy your first rod and see thousands of different options on the shelves.

Choosing the correct fishing line weight is very important for bass fishing. Beginners should not buy expensive line because you will go through a lot of it while you are learning the basic skills in bass fishing. Once you have a rod and reel you will want to move on to selecting a few bass fishing lures.

Make sure the lures you get are specifically made with bass fishing in mind. During the summer when it is hot the bass like going to the deeper water and there are certain baits you can use for this. However, it is best during regular bass fishing to use a prop bait, especially if there is a bit of wind to help you work with it, it is also a great way to practice with your lures on speed and power.

Beginner anglers often choose the popper baits when learning bass fishing. Popper bait is easy to use because you just cast it out, let it rest a short while and then pull to pop it back. After experimenting awhile on the amount of drop noise, you can learn to make smaller plugs with less noise, then work on the pause between each twitch of the wrist, then you will be sure to begin catching the bass of your dreams.

Bass fishing is a sport that comes with a truly fascinating history and people who enjoy bass fishing feel it is a very rewarding hobby. Bass fishing is known to go back as early as the 18th century and many people today consider it one of the best outdoor sports in the world.

A lot of accidents happen because somebody did not bother to observe proper rules and regulations at sea. The worst part of it is that these incidents do not just result to loss of properties; it can also lead to personal injuries and even loss of lives. To avoid all these tragedies at sea, boating enthusiasts should take the boating rules at heart. If everyone adheres to boating rules and regulations, the flow of traffic at sea would be orderly and smooth.

Learning The Basic Boating Rules
If you are one of those people who are just learning to navigate a boat, your first lessons should be about boating rules. Although different states may have their boating rules, most of these boating rules have a lot in common. For instance, most states specify more or less the safe safety measures at sea so even if you sail across the territorial waters of different states, you will not really have many problems along this line is you observe proper safety measures. Moreover, most states observe the basic traffic rules at sea so if you have already learned these things by heart, you need not worry about getting on the wrong side of the law. The key here is to observe common courtesies at sea.

To learn about the basic boating rules, enroll in some boating classes. There are many establishments all over the country that are offering boating classes. Some of these establishments are even offering their classes for free. When taking boating classes, you should enroll in those classes that provide both theoretical and hands-on instructions. Always remember that it is easier to remember all the boating rules and regulations if you actually put them into practice.

On the other hand, if you do not have the time or the patient to attend classes and listen to lectures about boating rules, you can just buy a book on boating and start reading. This way, you can learn at your own pace. Aside from reading books, you may also use those audio/video instructional materials. The good thing about these audio/video materials is that they are very easy to understand. Just spend a few minutes in from of you computer or your TV and watch the video. You can also pause and rewind the video if you want to review some things. Once you have learned the basic boating rules, you can already apply all these rules when you go out to sea.

If you or someone you know is looking for a boat trader or boat show that you can attend where you will be able to take in the wonderful sights of awesome boats or even find a new boat that you can purchase if that's what you are interested in, there are a few things specifically that you are going to want to be aware of.

Toronto International Boat Show

If you live in, or are planning a trip to Canada, something you cannot miss is the Toronto International Boat Show. This show takes place between January 10-18 next year so you can make reservations now if you want to attend, and the Toronto in-water boat show takes place between the 11-14th in September of this year.

Some of the top brand names in the world will be featured there, these include Bayliner, Bennington, Bluewater Yachts, Campion, Carver, Chaparral, Chris Craft, Cobalt, Craig Cat, Crownline, Cruisers, Edge Water, Four Wins, Grady White, Key West, Key West, Larson, Lazzara, and Lund.

Southampton Boat Show

The Southampton Boat show cannot be missed. Just last year the show had over 127,000 visitors to see the gorgeous boats on display, this year they expect even more people.

This is only the tip of the iceberg in boat shows you can attend, regardless of your boat buying or gazing intentions. Make sure that you check to see what different boat shows are in your area because obviously these are going to be easier to get to than those that are farther away.

Unfortunately not everyone lives in an area where a boat show would be feasible, because if you don’t live by the water for instance you will obviously have to travel if you want to go to one of these shows for yourself.

These boat shows are definitely a great idea if you are looking for a awesome new boat, regardless of the make or model. Be sure to spend equal time looking at all the boats, you never know which one will catch your eye.

Take your friends and family and really have a great time at the show, and even if you don’t find a boat to purchase at least you will enjoy yourself.

The Florida Keys stretch some 100 miles out into the ocean and have water on all sides and fish galore. Keys such as Islamorada have built an enviable reputation for top class sport but for many years now Key West has held the reputation of being simply the best sport fishing location in North America because of the huge selection of species that inhabit the oceans around the island. Florida Keys fishing attracts fishermen from all over the world and for very good reasons.

The inshore fishing around Key West includes fishing for tarpon, permit or sharks, the reef offers snapper and grouper and offshore there's a whole host of species including dolphin, sailfish, wahoo, kingfish, tuna and cobia. With the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other, there’s no excuse for having a poor day’s fishing whatever the weather gods can throw at you.

Although there are a number of offshore boats operating out of Key West, our primary interest is light tackle fishing. If you are not a regular saltwater angler you’ll be asking what we are referring to, so we'll begin with a simple explanation. The offshore boats tend to be bigger with a more luxurious setup which might include a large air conditioned lounge bunks and showers. They motor around the ocean towing a number of lures behind the boat and when a fish hooks itself the lucky angler sits in the fighting chair to bring the hooked fish to the boat. A light tackle boat is somewhat smaller, being somewhere around 26 – 30 ft long, with an open deck and no creature comforts such as bunks or saloons. Typically powered by twin outboards, they roar around at impressive speeds which allows them to reach fishing spots many miles from the harbor at Key West. Each angler on board has a rod and reel, and when a fish bites it is up to the angler to strike and reel in the fish unaided. The offshore boats tend to fish in water at least 200 feet deep whereas the light tackle boats are at home operating in water anything between 20 ft deep for tarpon in the harbour to 200 ft deep offshore whilst fishing for sailfish.

You don't have to be an expert angler to fish from a light tackle boat, the captains enjoy nothing better than seeing someone reel in their very first fish. All of the skippers are very helpful and they will do their very best to make sure that you have a great fishing experience, and hopefully a fish or two to take home with you or have prepared at one of the local seafood restaurants. All of the boats have a large selection of fishing tackle for anyone that doesn't have their own tackle. All you need to take with you for a great day on the water is food and drink, sunglasses, a hat and plenty of sunscreen.

Our next articles will describe in greater detail a day fishing for sailfish, tuna, grouper or tarpon, but for the time being we’d suggest that you to book a trip and catch some of our wonderful fish.

The tarpon is one of the world’s finest sporting fish. Stunningly beautiful and known as the Silver King, their aerobatic leaps make them a favourite of fishermen worldwide. From March to July thousands of tarpon pass through the harbour in Key West en route to their breeding areas and anglers flock into town for the chance to do battle with them.

There are a number of different methods for catching tarpon, the method varying depending on the type of water that is being fished. Tarpon can be found on sand or mangrove flats and also in shallow river inlets. For these venues the favoured method is either fishing a lure or a fly (with a strong fly rod. At some venues such as Islamorada the favoured style is livebaiting with small fish such as pilchards or herring. The preferred method in Key West is chumming with shrimp boat trash. Let me explain what we mean by shrimp boat trash. Lots of shrimp fishing boats fish the waters in the Gulf of Mexico and besides catching shrimp they also net a lot of small fish called menhaden. These are sacked up and sold as bait to the tarpon fishing boats in Key West.

The method sees the Captain cutting the manhaden into chunks and continually dropping them behind the anchored boat to attract the tarpon. The anglers fish with a whole menhaden on the hook, and it is drifted back in the tidal flow down to the feeding tarpon.

The tackle recommended when fishing for tarpon in Key West is very simple. Our favourite tarpon fishing rod is the ABU Conolon Boat, 7’9” 12-20lb test curve. It sells here in the UK for £74.99. There is also a 3 piece version (the Conolon Boat Traveller) which might be more suited to the jet-setting traveller. That one retails at £79.99 in the UK. By the way, I use that Conolon Boat rod to fish for sturgeon in British Columbia and last year landed my biggest ever fish measuring 9ft 1inch and weighing…who knows, with only two of us fishing there’s no way we could lift such a beast but I'd put it at around 400 lbs. Anyhow, back to tarpon fishing. The most widely used reels for tarpon fishing are the Shimano TLD 15 or TLD 20 lever drag multipliers. The TLD 15 sells for around £80 in the UK, whereas the TLD 20 is about £15 more. Whatever reel you choose, it has to be super free running, because you’re attempting to make your bait run down in the tide at a similar speed to the pieces being thrown in by the skipper. My own preference is for the bigger TLD 20 because the larger spool turns more slowly when you are running your bait down in the tide and it takes less turns to reel in when the bait has drifted as far you want. You’ll need the reel fully loaded with line, I prefer the Ande grey in breaking strains of either 15 or 20 lbs. To the end of that is tied a 10 foot leader of 50 lb fluorocarbon and a large circle hook. Of course all of the light tackle boats have excellent tackle for you to use should you not have your own.

Let's now take a look at the actual fishing method used in Key West. Your skipper will have taken you to one of the top tarpon spots, maybe the entrance to Key West Harbour, the yacht basin, the North West Channel or maybe Bokacheeka. The boat will be anchored at the bow and if there are other boats fishing they’ll probably be only a few feet away. The plan is that if everybody is chumming then there should be a good stream of food going down to the tarpon, keeping them in one substantial shoal rather than splitting it up. The captain will start chumming with the pieces of menhaden whilst you put a whole fish onto your hook. There’s a particular way to hook these baits but don't fret, the skipper will demonstrate how it's done. You now let your little fish drift down the current, paying very close attention to your line as it leaves the reel spool. A bite can be quite gentle and will normally be detected by the spool of the reel suddenly running faster. As soon as a bite is seen you need to reel like hell….don’t strike !!. The beauty of a circle hook is that it seemingly hooks the fish itself if you simply tighten the line by turning the reel as fast as possible.

Once a tarpon is hooked things will suddenly become hectic, the fish will likely jump clear of the water and it will definitely start running towards Cuba !!. Don't forget that when playing a tarpon that if he jumps he’ll throw the hook unless you swiftly lower the rod to ease the tension on the line. This dropping of the rod is known as “bowing to the King”, and you’ll get plenty of stick from everybody else on the boat if you lose a tarpon because he jumped and you forgot to bow. If the hooked fish is a reasonable size the skipper will let the anchor go and set off to follow the fish. It's not unusual to unhook a fish a mile away from where it was hooked. It can be a long and hard fight but with any luck you will eventually have the tarpon alongside the boat ready for a quick photo before it is safely unhooked to fight again some other day. I recall a ‘first-timer’ fishing with us one year. He hooked his first tarpon and as it jumped he excitedly asked “how big is that” to which one wag replied “about forty minutes” !!.

Old School Bass Fishing Secrets Course

Lake Erie has two excellent fishing areas you need to familiarize with when you read any any lake Erie fishing reports. The two hot spots you need to focus on are the Western and Central Basins for lake Erie. Most Fishing reports on Lake Erie will concentrate their reports on these to fisheries. The Western Basin and Central Basin hold some of the most pristine fishing areas in the Midwest. If you are planning a fishing trip to one of these areas do your homework. These area are excellent fishing areas but Lake Erie can be dangerous if you don't do some pre-planing to understand her weather patterns.

A good up to date fishing report is a must to pinpoint where you want to fish and for what type of fish species you are going to target. For example if you are going to target Walleye You need to make a decision On what area of lake Erie you are going to fish in. Refer to the current fishing Western Basin and Central Basin hot spots I copied from the Ohio Department of Natural resources below. If i was planing a summer walleye fishing trip i would identify only the information that is specific to Walleye.

For example, if I was interested in fishing for small mouth in the western basin during the summer, I would find a local fishing report that gave you details on Small mouth fishing. When I read my chart below, I would concentrate my pre-planning in the following areas: Bass Islands, Kelleys Island, Catawba, Marblehead, Sandusky Bay, Reef Complex, Maumee River, Portage River, and the Sandusky River.

Once you have identified the area you want to fish and for what species you are going to target you need to locate a good local fishing report. Now you need to locate a good source for accurate detailed information for these areas. Make sure your report includes up to date information and includes weather conditions. You can find your information on the Internet by using a simple search on "google".

Any number of things could go wrong during an outing on your boat. By practicing boat safety rules you can stay prepared for the unexpected. By maintaining your boat and making sure some necessary pieces of safety equipment are onboard your boat at all times, you can establish a little peace of mind.

Boating Safety Equipment
It is important to have Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices. There are numerous different PFDs available for purchase so do your research and find a type that will work best for your needs. If you have children onboard your boat, make sure that you have some PFDs available that will fit them.

Another piece of boating safety equipment that should be kept on your boat is a fire extinguisher. Depending on the size and type of boat that you have a fire extinguisher might be a required piece of safety equipment.

Visual distress signals should be stored on your boat in case of an emergency. Depending on the time of day some flares might be more appropriate than others. Flashing lights really work best at night and a distress flag will only be seen during the day. Multiple types of flares are available including those that can be launched into the sky. Flares are also available in handheld forms that generate smoke that can be used to signal distress. Make sure to pay attention to the expiration of flares and replace them as needed.

Boat horns, bells, and whistles are great to have onboard your boat to help signal to other boaters nearby. Depending on your location and the size of your boat, the Coast Guard may require that your vessel has one of these devices installed.

On top of having personal flotation devices for all of your passengers towing or having a life raft onboard you boat can be useful. Depending on weather conditions and your location you might not want to spend hours in the water drifting while you wait for rescue. With a life raft you can seek refuge safely during your wait. Make sure to pack some boating safety gear with your life raft. Flares should be a must have as well as a weatherproof flashing and some type of device that can be used to generate noise.

Boating regulations vary depending on the type of boat that you have. Check the Coast Guard’s website if you have any questions regarding the safety of your boat. You will also find several additional great boating safety tips that you can apply to your boat.

P&O Aurora Cruise Ship Cabin Suite 228

Planning for discount cruise travel involves a number of decisions that will ultimately impact the quality of your vacation and how much enjoyment you get out of the adventure. An integral part of any vacation voyage is deciding on one cruise line from the many cruise ships available to you. In addition, you will need to decide on the type of cabin you want, as well as the location of the cabin on the ship.

When you are browsing through the websites or the brochures for cruise ship travel, you will see that there is always an area that features the layout of the vessel, which outlines the various decks where the passenger cabins are located. Along with the diagrams of the interiors floor plans of the ship, there are usually listings of the different categories of cabins. On very large ships there can be as many as 20 cabin categories, which often makes it very confusing, especially for first-time cruise travelers.

Many times, the discount cruise travel deals only apply to a select number of cabins that are part of a certain classification aboard the cruise ships. For those who have never been cruising before, this aspect can be tricky since you lack the experience to know what the classifications mean, in terms of location and comfort. And, if you choose the wrong cabin class, you could end up trying to sleep as an elevator clangs away right next to your bed.

On most ships, the cheapest cabins, and the ones that are sometimes offered as "hot deals" by some of the discount travel websites, are tiny and barely larger than some people's walk-in closets. These cabins are also generally on the lower levels of the ship and may even be below the waterline, so obviously without portholes. While many people who are more interested in the activities outside their cabin may not be dissuaded by a tiny, windowless cabin, they do need to know about the noise. The lower levels of a ship are very close to the engines and often the roar of the engines can make it very difficult to get any sleep.

However, on the newer ships that are being built today, that is less of a problem, as they are being designed better to avoid this problem. In fact, the new trend that many of the cruise lines are following with the newer ships is laying out the cabins in such a way that all the passengers at least have a port hole. There are even some ships in service now that boast balconies for all cabins, no matter what classification.

This is a great trend for cruise passengers because it helps to assure that any cabin, in any classification, will be comfortable and enjoyable. Having the ability to be in the privacy of your cabin, while relaxing with a cup of coffee or glass of wine on your own verandah, will help to make the cruising experience personal, comfortable and luxurious.

With the right deal on the price of the ticket, even a tiny cabin can make sense if you are taking a short cruise that will only last two or three days. In most cases, these cruise ships are more geared for those who are partying and the cabins are just a place to sack out for a few hours between festivities. But if you are going to be on board for more than a few days, or if partying is not your main reason for cruising, then you will want to be sure you have a comfortable cabin where you can relax and unwind and have some time to yourself.

Cruises are an excellent means of getting out and discovering the world. Cruise ships now have every luxury you can think of from fine dining to world-class spas. It is a vacation packaged that is wrapped up into one convenient package. There are even cruise ships created specifically with children in mind. The parents can frolic in the sun while the kids are engaged in fabulous activities. The destinations are all over the world and you can decide how long you want to be gone. You have to think to yourself; what more could a person ask for on their vacations?

Disney Cruise Line

For those who have been kicking around the idea of taking their next vacation aboard a ship, but don't know which cruise line to choose or what destination to target, a Disney cruise is a safe choice for just about anyone. But, Disney brings more to the table than just offering a safe choice. In typical Disney fashion, you will feel the magical touches all around you with exquisite attention to detail in their luxury liners. As well, a cruise aboard a Disney floating hotel is not just for kids. There are a multitude of things to do and ways to be pampered for people of all ages.

There is no doubt that children and Disney go hand-in-hand. They will have the time of their lives on a Disney inspired cruise and will be constantly engaged in fun activities that will keep them interested. There are also entertainment options and activities designed just for the adults. And, because the kids are kept happily busy with their activities, the parents can also enjoy their time and relax knowing that the kids are safe and enjoying themselves. Of course, there are also many things that families can enjoy doing together which will create great lasting memories.

The Disney Cruise Line currently have a small fleet of two ships, which were built to their demanding specifications. The ships are called the Disney Wonder and the Disney Magic and they feature art-deco decor throughout, which hearkens back to the time when the grand luxury liners crossed the oceans, in the early 1900's. Disney has plans to bring two more ships into service in the near future because their foray into the cruise business has been so successful.

Both of these ships also boast a number of innovations true to the Disney approach to doing things well and with unique touches. One of these innovations is the way that they rotate their guests through a series of their restaurants during each cruise, so that not only is the food unique each day but so are the surroundings. In addition, you will also find reservation-only specialty restaurants that you can choose to dine in, as an option.

Because Disney is such a family oriented company, you will find that the cabins have all been designed in a family-friendly way. They are more spacious, by about 25%, than what you will find on other cruise lines, and they include clever touches in the cabins to make it easier for the kids and the parents to have their own space. Also, more than 70% of the cabins have a porthole or a verandah which helps passengers avoid feeling claustrophobic.

Taking the cruise by Disney has been referred to as taking a vacation on a floating theme park. Each ship has four different theme restaurants, a "district" that features many entertainment options for the adults, a retail shopping area, a Broadway-style theater with live shows, and also a movie theater. In addition, there are three pools, a spa center that covers more than 9,000 square feet, and over 15,000 square feet of territory that is strictly devoted to entertaining the kids.

The small Disney Cruise fleet currently calls Cape Canaveral, Florida, it's home port and is only an hour from Disney World. This proximity provides a terrific opportunity for families to enjoy the hospitality of Disney both on land and on sea. While you can book reservations separately, Disney offers some very attractive packages that combine the best of both worlds.

Once upon a time a cruise was not that great of a vacation. You needed to adhere to the itinerary of the ship and only rarely had that much of a choice in what went on. Even the activities were scheduled and sometimes might be very boring. The cruises available now are nothing like their predecessors. These types of ships have an extensive range of services that range from luxury spas for people looking to unwind all the way to gambling. Your cruise is made exactly like you want it. No more schedules that are strict for you. You can choose when you want to eat, sleep or play. Click here for more information:
