Before you decide to book a particular fishing charter, there is some must know tips that ensure your charter goes as you plan. Lets take a look at how you can get the most from your charter trip, so you have the best time possible out fishing!
I often work for charter crews as a deck hand, and ive seen many charters over my years in the industry. I can share with you from experience, that each charter is what you make of it, and if you paying for the time, you want to maximise what you get out of it by being fully prepared! I also book and go on heaps of fishing charters each year, on many boats, as I ove going fishing with mates! Ive amassed a wealth of tips and tricks over the years, as an industry insider.
Before you embark, theres a good number of must do and must know details, that you should have sorted out before the boat leaves. Try and always make plans with the boats captain, because hes in charge!
*Departure, docking and fishing time, and where the boat leaves from. Berthing facilities are known to be confusing areas, so if you dont know it well, pop down the day before and sus out where the boat goes from, about 1 in every 3 trips I work on, leaves late because of the clients.
*Ensure you ask what gear you should bring, and what gear the boat provides. Tackle on charter boats can be sub standard, so ensure your boat has good quality gear that is well maintained and is suitable for the fish your targeting.
*Ask your captain how fast the boat cruises at, and how long you can expect to take getting to the fishing spots. Your charter fee is best spent on fishing time, not on travelling time!
