Have you gone surf fishing? Between all types of fishing trips, I find this one very exciting and you know why? Surf fishing is another method of catching fishes standing on the shoreline or wading knee-deep in the surf. However, surf fishing may or may not include casting a lure or bait, and it can refer to all types of shore fishing - from sandy and rocky beaches, rock jetties, or even fishing piers. The fun part of this fishing trip is anyone can do what he wants. When I and my family went surf fishing just a few months back, me and my wife are standing on the shoreline, each of us holding his or her own fishing rod while the kids were on one side swimming. We really had a great time going surf fishing but unfortunately, we only had a few catch. Maybe it’s time that we should learn how to surf fishing before doing it again next time, what do you think?

We just can’t get all of our minds off from the great times we had doing surf fishing. Frankly speaking, before that, we never done any fishing. It’s not that we don’t like going out fishing, it’s just that we had no ample time and additionally, only a few can have the kind of patience to sit around all day while waiting for a fish to take the bait. And I thought, “Hey, what if we can all go fishing without sitting around all day, how about standing all day?” Weird but when we tried out surf fishing, we really became enthralled into it. But then, again, before heading out to another surf fishing trip, we need to learn some surf fishing tips.

Well, okay, that would be a great idea but the next question would be is: “How can we ever learn surf fishing the right way where we can get some good catch aside from having a great time with the family?” Well, we tried to browse the Internet and sure enough, we saw some book guides and other downloadable learning tools to learn saltwater surf fishing and we find it quite a good and effective learning tool.

fixed bobber Fishing Rig

Old School Crappie Fishing Family Secrets

There are four fishing rig types that have multiple variations that we will talk about and they are a fixed sinker rig, a slip sinker rig, a fixed bobber rig, and a slip bobber rig. There are statics that support the fact that about three fourths of all game fish that are caught in freshwater and saltwater are caught with live or natural baits. Even the pros will switch to tipping their artificial baits with live bait when the fishing get tough. But to be honest if you do not lean to rig your live baits properly you lower chances of catching fish drastically. But don't get scared off because you don't need to learn a different fishing rig method for every type of bait. The four methods we are going to talk about are very versatile and can be used for wide variety of baits and different fishing situations with minor modifications.

For example you can use a slip bobber rig to catch fish species from bluegill from small ponds on wax worms or red worms , to catching monster catfish or northern pike using baits 12 inches long or bigger! Al you have to do is change the size of the components used to make up a slip bobber rig and you are in business to catch any size fish. You still have to learn your baits for very special applications but the majority of natural baits will work well with the fishing rig systems we have listed.

Fixed Sinker Fishing Rig

If you are fishing for game fish that are not line or weight sensitive such as large catfish you could use a slip sinker rig. The fixed sinker rig is designed to designed to to not move when a fish hits your bait. You fish this fishing rig what is called tight line. You want no slack in your line when you fish a fixed sinker rig. If your tip moves or if you line goes slack after a hit pick your pole up and real your line back tight. With the pole still in your hand wait for a second hit. If the hit comes set the hook imediately. When you are fishing with fixed sinker fishing rigs there are a number of sinker and hook variatons you can use and they will depend on what gamefish you are targeting and what type of water conditions you are fishing in.

Slip Sinker Fishing Rig

One of the most universal fishing rigs you will ever use is the slip sinker fishing rig. This rig has so many variations and can used to a variety of game fish species. The fundamentals of a slip sinker rig are vary simple. The rig is designed for game fish species that are very line sensitive and spook easily. When a fish picks up your live bait presentation they actually can mouth it and start moving away with you bait without detecting any live Resistance. When you see you line start to move, pick up your pole and real in the slack and get ready to set the hook. If the line starts to move, or continues to move set the hook. You can fish this rig in any water conditions with a few fishing tackle modifications designed specifically for the water condition you are fishing in.

fixed bobber Fishing Rig
A fixed bobber rig is designed so that the fish taking your bait feels very little resistance when they take your bait. The key to having a correctly balanced fixed bobber rig is to match a proper size split shot or jig size with the size of the bobber you use. You want the weight of your bait and the weight of the jig or split shot to be enough to just barely keep your bobber a float. When a fish takes your bait it feels no resistance from the bobber . Fixed bobber rigs are used alot when fishing for panfish and any gamefish that can be caught at shallow depths. The disadvantage of fixed bobber rigs is that you can only set the depth as deep as the length of pole you are using.

Slip bobber Fishing Rig

A slip bobber rig is designed to be used for adjustable deep depths that are much deeper then the length of your fishing rod. Slip bobber rigs are designed to be easy to cast. Slip bobbers use a bobber stop and a bead that will stop the bobber at a set depth. This type of rig can be used to catch small or large fish.

catfish bait

Old School Catfish Fishing Family Secrets

There are many catfish anglers that think the best catfish bait to use to catch channel catfish and blue catfish are blood catfish baits. Blood baits are known to work exceptionally well for these two species of cats especially when you drag or bounce them off the bottom to get the fresh sent of blood flowing through currents. If there is no current you can cast your blood catfish bait out numerous times and drag it along the bottom to attract the catfish to your area.

How to make blood catfish bait:

Step 1

Go to a local slaughterhouse and get yourself some fresh blood. You will need to get enough to fill a good size baking pan at least 3/4" deep. Poor the blood into the baking pan and place it into the refrigerator.

Step 2

Let the pan sit in the refrigerator until the blood bait mass feels almost like a rubber surface. This may take up to 5 to 7 days time.

Step 3

Now comes the easy part for you. Take your blood bait pan out of the refrigerator on a very hot and sunny day. elevate it above the ground so no critters can get into it. Let your blood bait pan sit in the sun all day until the top of the blood surface gets a hard surface. Next you will want to cut the pan into 2 inch squares and fill small plastic bags with no more then 3 squares each. The last thing you then want to do is put your plastic bags back into the refrigerator until you are ready to use them for catfish bait at a later date.

How to hook blood catfish bait:

Step 1

Cut off about 12 inches of fishing line and tie a number 1 to 2/0 treble hook to one end of the line. On the other end of the line tie a large barrel swivel.

Step 2

Pick up some small gauge wire, about 12 to 14 inches in length. Take one end and bend it 90 degree upward like a hook. Next slide the hook end into the open eye of the barrel swivel.

Step 3

Take One Of the 2 inch square pieces of blood catfish bait and pierce a hole in it with the strait end of the light gauge wire. Next pull the wire and the leader through the hole you pierced and impale the treble hook into the blood bait.

raise your own nightcrawlers

Old School Bass Fishing Family Secrets

Old School Walleye Fishing Family Secrets

There are so many different types of worms that make the perfect live bait for a variety of different game fish but we can't list them all here but we will talk about the most common nightcrawlers and other worm types in our article today. Those worm types include leaf worms, red wigglers, garden worms, grunt worms, African nightcrawlers, European night crawlers, and The common night crawler. What is amazing about Nightcrawlers and other worms types is the spectrum of gamefish that consume them. You can catch fish as small as sunfish or as large as northern pike with night crawlers or other worms. Crawlers and other worms are also popular because they are so readily available at any bait store. Also they are extremely easy to keep and raise on your own.

All types of nightcrawlers are very easy to raise. You can build yourself a worm box and store it in your basement, backyard or in your garage. You can make your worm box out of just about any material just make sure you make it big enough. A size of of about 2ft x 3 ft x 2ft deep is excellent. Fill the your worm box with fertile loamy soil. Wait for a good rainy night then go out and catch as many night crawlers as you can find and put them in your new worm box. Once you have enough night crawlers they will reproduce and you will have a constant supply of fresh night crawler bait.

Worms are "Hermaphrodites" which means they have both male and female sex organs. These sex organs are found in the dark spot that looks like a Normal 0 collar near the head. One nightcrawler cannot produce by itself. As the saying says. "It takes two to tangle." When two nightcrawlers or other worm types mate right both will be impregnated and produce a cocoon filled with eggs which they deposit in the soil.

The incubation period is usually about 2 to 3 weeks. Another amazing thing about night crawlers is you can pull them apart into pieces and they will not die! So you can use partial pieces of nightcrawlers and still have fresh and lively bait.

Night crawlers and other worms do not have eyes or ears but they can sense vibrations. That is why when you are trying to catch them they sometimes retreat back into their burrows before you get to them because they are sensing the vibrations of your feet. Nightcrawlers are also sensitive to light. If you hunt nightcrawlers at night do not point the beam of your flashlight directly at the crawlers. because they will immediately start moving back into their burrows. Instead, fan your light across the grass quickly and take note where you think you saw crawlers. Next step very softly close to the nightcrawlers then shine your light quickly and at the same time put you fingers on and as close to the burrow as you can and pull gently up, so you don't pull the nightcrawler in half. On rainy nights if you see nightcrawlers that are paired up side by side by all means get these crawlers first because they are mating, and a good choice if you are starting a new worm farm.

Sunglasses are very trendy for all ages. But sunglasses has more aspect not just about fashion. How can sunglasses be useful at fishing?
Fishing sunglasses often make the difference between caught fish and lost fish. The glare drastically reduces visibility when you watch the water surface with the naked eye: you won't see the underwater structures or the fish. Moreover, without fishing sunglasses it will become almost impossible to watch the water surface; eye strain leads to weariness, not to mention that there is also the risk of getting more serious eye damage. Fishing sunglasses will eliminate the glare and block the harmful ultraviolet rays. Many fishermen prefer buying sunglasses for all weather conditions so that visibility remains great no matter the fishing whereabouts. Fishing sunglasses can also be rated according to the materials of which the lenses are made.

Good durability and perfect visual acuity are provided by glass lenses, yet, they are criticized for being too heavy and breakable. The most popular lens choice is polycarbonate that makes the fishing sunglasses lightweight and resistant to impact, although rather prone to scratch if compared to glass resistance. Acrylic lenses make one other possible choice, although not a very good one, because despite the quality anti-glare properties the material can distort vision. As for lens color, fishing sunglasses are available in copper, brown, amber and gray.

There is no color distortion with gray lenses, and the light absorption rate is high. These fishing sunglasses go great for open water fishing on bright sunny days. Copper fishing sunglasses are very soothing for the eyes, and if you need higher sighting abilities, then, this is the perfect lens color for fishing sunglasses. Brown works great for all circumstances too because of the great contrast and the real color perception. For bright sunshine or clouded days, for lakes or streams, brown lenses will serve the fisherman well.

As for amber lenses, this kind of fishing sunglasses are effective on cloudy days or when the light conditions are low at dawn and at dusk. Do not neglect the importance of polarization because the anti-glare coating used on quality fishing sunglasses does not allow the reflected light to pass to your eye. Plus, without polarized lenses, flat or bonefish will be impossible to catch. Last but not least, good sunglasses act as a barrier against insects, wind and dust, which can diminish the comfort and even injure the eyes.

If you have ever wondered about how to catch catfish, then this article is for you. You are about learn how to select the right bait for catching catfish, and what to look for in order to find the fish. The methods of how to catch catfish are basically using sport fishing with rods and reels, and using jug lines to catch them. But what bait to entice them with, and how to find them are the two tips that are crucial, at that we are going to be talking about today.

The harder of the two is finding the fish. But the basic idea is that catfish like to find points, drop offs, stumps, fallen trees or other cover with which to scavenge for food. So really the catfish don’t worry to much about the season, they are going to be looking for a meal. I can’t remember the last time I went out jug fishing and got blanked, and I am not sure if it has ever happened.

Learning about the right kind of bait to use when catfishing is the second thing you need. Catfish are essentially scavengers, but as the grow larger, they tend to lean toward mostly fish diets. If you really want to catch the big ones, you’ll need to start using perch and shad. Use live if possible. Sometimes they are hard to keep alive, and if you cannot do it, then just cut them and allow them to bleed in the water. The fast action seekers should consider using chicken livers or blood bait instead of bait fish.

So to reiterate, how to catch catfish is all about finding the fish, then using the right bait to catch them. These catfishing tricks are good, and I hope you use them to go out there and catch more fish.

Bass Fly Fishing Techniques and Tools

The sport of fly fishing has in the past been all about catching trout. Using fly fishing techniques, today it is now possible to catch just about any freshwater or salt-water fish. Bass fly fishing has now become extremely popular all over the world. This is due to the fighting qualities of bass. Pound for pound, bass fight harder and longer than any trout (except for the very large steelhead trout). The body shape of a bass is also quite flat, and this makes them a tough fight with a fly rod as there is increased drag when trying to pull them through the water. Bass fly fishing is slightly different from tout fishing, but the basic skills used are the same.

Smallmouth Bass Fly Fishing Technique

Smallmouth bass are found in rivers and streams. With fishing rivers and streams, quite often there are trees and bush lining the river or stream, and therefore not enough room behind you to make a full overhead cast. Therefore learning to roll cast is recommended. Take a look at the following fly fishing casting techniques article for more information on roll casting. Another option is wading deep into the stream or river which would provide you with sufficient room for overhead casting.

When fly fishing rivers and streams its also important to know how to mend the line. With the different currents within the river there may be areas flowing quicker than others, which may cause the fly to overtake the line, or the line to overtake the fly. This will disturb the natural drift of the fly line, and may spook the bass. The technique whereby a section of the fly line is lifted and moved to re-align it with the drift of the fly is called mending. Smallmouth bass mostly sit and wait for prey in the small pools in the river which are formed by submerged rocks, trees, or other objects. With smallmouth bass fly fishing, It's a good idea to target these pools. Streamers that look like small baitfish or look like crayfish are quite effective for smallmouth bass fly fishing.

Largemouth Bass Fly Fishing Technique

Largemouth bass are found mostly in ponds and lakes. Quite large flies are commonly used for largemouth bass fly fishing. The most popular flies used for bass fly fishing are deer hair flies and poppers. Terrestrial flies (flies which resemble land based insects that land on the water by accident) are also quite effective. When casting dry flies for largemouth bass, its a good idea to land your fly near to weeds, rocks, lilies or other underwater objects where largemouth bass love to hide when stalking prey. Let the dry fly float on top of the water for a few minutes after casting. Make the fly twitch on the water, then slowly retrieve the line. Often the bass will strike the fly as it hits the water.

Bass Fly Fishing Equipment

You can use the same equipment for bass fly fishing that you would use for trout fly fishing. With bass fly fishing a 6 to 9 weight fly fishing rod is normally used, along with a fly line with a matching weight. It’s not necessary to have an expensive rod and reel for bass fly fishing, and a good fly rod for someone starting out in the sport of bass fly fishing is the fairly priced St Croix Triumph Fly Fishing Rod. You can use the same double-tapered line used for trout fly fishing, but its recommended that you use a weight-forward line for bass fly fishing. Although you can catch bass with normal trout flies, you will have more success with bass specific flies.

The sense that the Alaska fishing tours bring in a lot of dollars and cents is quite an obvious one. Their contribution to the economy was highlighted by a recent official survey conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish and game looking at 2007 data. Their findings included quantifying the number of fishing licenses sold in Alaska that year to nearly half a million. The also found these fishermen had a high level of spending on their hobby equating to $1. 39 billion per annum. Related expenditure was on areas such as travel, accommodation, equipment and guides.

The small town of Bethel, Alaska undertook a similar study in 2008. Fishing, both commercial and sport varieties play a significant economic role. This community is made up of around 6, 300 people is on the coast west of Anchorage.

Their study found that there was a large untapped potential benefit from sports fishing. They had the desirable fish, but the services available to fishermen in the area were lacking. They recognized visitors spent significantly more than locals hiring guides and obtaining services and supplies. The upshot of this study was to suggest the community tap into the fishing industry by updating and expanding services. One key was to ensure repeat business was maximized by improving the quality of the visitors experience while in the area. The final conclusion they came to was to improve the quality of the lodging options. Their study found the non-resident fisherman usually came from a higher income bracket.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has long recognized the contribution sport fishing provides to the economy. This is why it has always supported the notion that guides must be registered to maintain high standard and sustainable practices in the industry. They believe having first aid certificates and appropriate insurance will support the knowledge guides have and will result in higher levels of professionalism. This will help ensure the continued viability of the fishing industry in Alaska.

An added benefit of the whole licensing regime is to provide better information for decision making. In the past statistical data which is now being returned via log books was not available. Now trends can be mapped and planning undertaken.

An area of tourism for which there is limited economic data is the growing interest in wildlife viewing. Some fishing operators are exploring options to include this growing niche into their mainstream business others remain dubious about its economic contribution.

In the end Alaska fishing tours and the general sport fishing industry are major parts of the economy of Alaska. The benefits they bring and need to ensure their continued viability is one of upmost importance.
